Arnie Kasendorf (85 years old), passed away unexpectedly, on Saturday, September 8th, 2018, surrounded by his children, Eydie, Allison, and Alex, and his longterm partner, Nancy. Arnie was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 28th, 1933, lived in Virginia for some years, and spent the last 41 years in California. After retiring, Arnie obtained college degree, pursued a master’s degree, and devoted much of his free time to the well-being of seniors. He served as chairman of the Richmond Commission on Aging for 10 years, the Richmond Advisory Commission, was vice-president of both the Richmond Chamber of Commerce and the California Alliance for Retired Americans, and represented Richmond on the Contra Costa County Agency on Aging. As part of these civic activities, he helped to provide many hours of enjoyment to the senior community, including the Senior Winter Ball, attended each year by hundreds of local residents. He was also a board member emeritus on the Richmond Main St. Initiative Inc., dedicated to restoring downtown Richmond, and a Commissioner on the Richmond Housing Advisory Commission.
Arnie was an incredibly loving and generous person. He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Nancy, children, Eydie Kasendorf (Alan Cusher), Allison Zion (Philip), and Alex Kasendorf (Christina), as well as his grandchildren, Margaux, Danielle, Hannah, Nicole, Rachel, Noah, Sam, and Ava, great-grandson, Isaac, and a large extended family. We will miss him greatly.
