Leta “Ann” Gilmore, 85 of San Pablo, CA was born on September 13, 1931 in Roper, North Carolina a rural farm community where they grew tobacco. Her parents were Bessie and Noah Dallas Phelps both from North Carolina. She has one older brother named Phil. As an infant, her mother, Bessie fell ill and was hospitalized. During that time, her father Noah and aunt Martha raised her and her brother. During her childhood, she enjoyed playing with dolls and swinging on the tree swing in her front yard. As she grew, she loved to swim in a nearby swimming hole and was an avid softball player. Her aunt taught her to cook and sew. Later in her young adulthood she met and married a marine, Willis Melvin Gilmore from California. They purchased a home in San Pablo, CA and had six children: Elaine, Aaron, Gordon, Sharon, Darrell and Darlene. Willis worked for the City of Berkeley, CA and Ann was a homemaker. She was a devoted wife and mother and married to Willis for 60 years until his death in November 2009. Ann enjoyed being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family and loved to sing Christian songs to them. She loved her children and was very affectionate and caring to them. She enjoyed worshipping, preaching and ministering to others. She and her family attended Calvary Temple Church in San Pablo, CA and was youth pastor under Pastor Jess Higginbotham where she counseled the youth. She preaced in various setting such as the Richmond Rescue Mission, local churches and home bible studies. In her later years, she attended Wells of Blessings Church in Vallejo, CA and enjoyed sermons from Pastor Cliff Lawson and Co-Pastor Barbra Stangle. Her hobbies included listening to music by the gospel singers and watching Christian services like Jimmy Swaggart and Peter Popoff. She loved to dress up and enjoyed movies, starring Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. She also enjoyed going to restaurants and shopping with family and friends. Ann is survived by her brother Phil Phelps and son-in law, Gary Filippi. Ann has been blessed with grandsons: David Filippi, Keith Filippi, Justin Gilmore, James Calesa, Adam Calesa, and Kevin Shaffer. Her granddaughters: Lisa Shaffer, Keleigh Stender, Evonne Gilmore, Vanessa Gilmore, and Amber Monasch. Her great grandchildren include: Jessica Kim, Jason Filippi, Kalib Shaffer, Kelsey Shaffer, Zachary Shaffer, Christian Shaffer, Genevieve Stender, Julian Stender, Elian Venegas, Gabriel, Katie and Tiffany Gilmore. Her daughter-in-law Cathleen Gilmore, and son-in-law Eric Quesquen. Her nieces include: Brooke Moore, Marlene McFall, Linda Lee Austin, and Julie Michelle Reeves. Her nephews include: Thomas Fairbanks, Dennis Moore, Terry James Nailen, and Bill Gilmore. Sister-In-Law: Vonna Moore and brother-in-law Bill Moore. Our beloved Ann Gilmore passed away on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at her home in San Pablo, CA with her family and friends at her bedside. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 1:00p.m. at Sunset View Mortuary, 101 Colusa Ave. in El Cerrito, CA Interment will follow at Sunset View Cemetery.
