Mrs. Nasibeh Baradaran Shafai, a precious mother, grandmother, and resident of Berkeley, California, died at the age of 89 on Thursday evening, October 2, 2025.
Nasibeh was born on January 23, 1936, in Ardebil, Iran. Her life was a journey of joy, love, and laughter and many sorrows. Her gentle, constant love was the anchor that held our family together, a devotion shaped by 40 years of marriage to her late husband, Akbar Shafai.
To know Nasibeh was to be instantly warmed by her presence. She was kind, highly intelligent, and an unforgettable conversationalist.
She was the light of family gatherings, sharing her fantastic singing voice. Her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, including her devoted son Mansour, her daughter Mali, her granddaughter Layla, and her son-in-law Rex. She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her.
Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light. ~ Dylan Thomas
