Tak Fukuchi passed away peacefully on March 10, surrounded by his family. Survived by his loving wife and companion of 60+ years, Ruth; children Matthew (Joyceline) and Catherine Fukuchi-Wong (John); grandchildren Lauren, Rex, and Vanessa; and many extended relatives. Predeceased by parents, Noboru and Chiyo, and brother, Fred.
Tak was born in Martinez on July 7, 1931. During WWII, his family was sent to the Gila River Internment Camp in Arizona. The family returned to the East Bay and settled in Berkeley. Tak graduated from Berkeley High School and Armstrong College. After serving in the U.S. Army, Tak married Ruth Sato in 1956. Tak went on to have a distinguished career in the U.S. Treasury Department. He was a long time resident of El Cerrito and Kensington. Among things that Tak enjoyed during his fulfilling retirement: golf, gardening, cooking, traveling, and watching his grandchildren participate in their numerous activities. He will be missed by his family, friends, and golf and foodie companions.
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life, to be held on 11a.m., Saturday, April 8th at Sunset View Mortuary, in El Cerrito. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to J-Sei, 1285 66th Street, Emeryville, CA 94608.
