Ronald Bruce Albro, aka mayor of Norvell Street, died peacefully Tuesday, December 27, after a long illness. Master builder, gifted fisherman, neighborhood watch commander, jokester par excellence, and friend to all, Ron lived life to its fullest, always ready for the next adventure.
Born at home in Oakland to Leoleon and Ted Albro, he lived in Contra Costa County for over 70 years. After graduation from Las Lomas High School in Walnut Creek, Ron enlisted in the Navy and served as a radarman on an ammunitions ship, traveling the high seas for four years. This was an experience he remembered fondly throughout his life. When Ron returned home from active duty, he found employment selling beer, an occupation he pursued for more than 40 years. Ron took personal responsibility for making sure that every one of his customers had superior service.
Gregarious and charming, Ron loved a good story, telling jokes, and interacting with whomever he encountered: puppies, neighborhood kids, friends from high school, his lifelong fishing buddies, exercise class cohorts…basically anyone and everyone he met. Ron was a people person.
Although he endured multiple medical issues his entire adult life, Ron didn’t let illness define who he was or deter him from living fully and enjoying each day. He just kept going and going until Tuesday, when his battery wound down and he stopped.
Ron is survived by his lovely wife Teresa; sons Jeff (Julia) and Ted; his amazing granddaughters Sophia and Gabielle; siblings Dianne Jackson and Rick Albro; plus a multitude of in-laws, outlaws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ron led a rich life. Although he is missed tremendously, we are grateful for the wild and wonderful ride we had together.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date. Please email trezana@hotmail.com for information about Ron’s memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Lung Association www.lung.org in Ron’s memory.
