Our beloved Richard William Ramirez entered into God’s kingdom on August 13, 2022 after a battle with cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by family.
Richard was a loyal servant to God, first and foremost. He loved the church and loved sharing the love and warmth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, with as many people as possible. At the time of his death, he was attending Hillside Church in San Jose.
Richard was born on November 15, 1936 to Abram and Josephine Ramirez in Santa Barbara, CA. He spent his childhood years living in El Cerrito where he was an active member of The American Baptist Youth Association. He graduated from Richmond High School in 1955. After graduation, he attended Contra Costa College. For a brief period, he owned and ran the restaurant, El Pancho in Southern California.
In 1961, Richard married Eunise Rosas, a match truly made in heaven. Richard and Eunise went on to have 3 children, Denisha, Larry (Vicky), and Bill (Sarah).
Later, he enlisted in the army and was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas from 1960-1962. After serving in the military, Richard decided to pursue a career in education. He studied at Sioux Falls College. At Sioux Falls, he studied sociology and was a member of the cheerleading squad. After returning to California, he took a teaching job at Peter Burnett Middle School where he taught Spanish. He then got his administrator credential and served as an administrator at Lincoln High School and Brett Harte. Later, in his career, he also taught at John Muir Middle School and Gunderson High School. After retiring from public education, he then taught Spanish at Valley Christian High School. Finally, he served as a campus monitor at Valley Christian High School. In total, he dedicated 50 years to education. We are overwhelmed by the number of former students who have shared his impact on their lives. He was unable to go anywhere including out of the country without encountering former students.
After retiring, Rich spent his time taking numerous day trips with his wife. He also enjoyed spending time with his 5 grandchildren and his one great-granddaughter. He continued to serve the community with his church family. He volunteered at Kids’ Club where he helped introduce students to Jesus and Farm Drive where he assisted Spanish-speaking students with their homework and chaperoned various field trips.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Teen Challenge, an organization that was close to Richard’s heart. A memorial will be held at 3:00 PM on September 24 at Valley Christian High School in the conservatory. All are welcome to attend. Light appetizers will be served following the service.
