Rex Dean Andrews, a resident of Orinda for 54 years, died March 24, 2021. Rex is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, the former Nanette Nelson; his children Peter (Susan), John (Laura), David (Amanda), grandchildren Tildyn and Rex, and brother-in-law Richard Nelson (Susan).
Born to Virgil and Mabel Andrews in Holyoke, Colorado, Rex grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska. He graduated from the University of Nebraska where he was an NROTC scholar and a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He received his MBA from the University of Michigan.
Rex served aboard ship in the Korean War and was a P2V patrol plane commander with squadrons in Hawaii, Alaska, and Japan. After active duty, Rex, a Lieutenant Commander, continued flying in the Naval Reserve.
Rex enjoyed a 31 year career at Wells Fargo Bank in California. After retiring as vice president of the National Division, he began his second career as administrator of Guidance for Academic Achievement Tutoring and Press.
An avid reader, runner, and family poet laureate, Rex was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. The family privately honored their beloved Rex with a beautiful service at St Clement’s Episcopal Church, Military Funeral Honors, and joyous memories of Rex’s civility in thought, word, and deed and his notable dry wit.
