Mrs. Nobuko Nishikado, age 94, passed away Monday evening, July 28th, 2025, peacefully,
at her residence with her family by her side. She was born May 10th, 1931, in Kunigami –
Nishinoomote-shi, Tanegashima, Japan.
Nobuko was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Michio “Andy” Nishikado; her
parents Eizo and Kiku Kajihara, her siblings, Mitsue, Fumie, Mitsuo and other close family
members to many to mention.
She was a member of the Berkeley Buddhist Temple and an amazing homemaker and
Mom. She truly enjoyed cooking for her family and earning her teaching credential with the
Berkeley Shigin Group. She enjoyed her time learning and teaching Shigin as this is a
musical performance of reciting a Japanese poem. She also loved her time with her
friends, family, and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nobuko is survived by three daughters and sons-in -law, Hiroko Okano (Steven) of El
Cerrito, CA, Mary Yukiko Markum(Robert)of Mountain View, CA, and Elaine Riyoko
Sugimura(Hiroyuki) of Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Jennifer Kiyomi Vital(Jino), Lindsey
Takimi Okano-Lloren(Jef), Bryce Takashi Sugimura(Erica), Cole Michihiro Sugimura(Giselle),
Jaime Michiko Hum-Nishikado; 9 great-grandchildren, Jaylen Michio Ivey, Aiden Yasuhiro
Lloren, Austin Hiroaki Lloren, Keiko Jianna Vital, Kylie Mercy Hiroko Lloren, Kenzo Cruz
Vital, Rayden Koa Sugimura, Cru Michihiro Sugimura, Senna Sumiko Sugimura; and 4
siblings in Japan, Kimiko, Kiyoko, Fumio and Katsuko. She also leaves many other family
members and friends who will sadly miss her.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at Sunset View
Cemetery & Mortuary in El Cerrito, CA. Burial will follow at the Heian Gardens at the same location.
