Shirley Zielesch-Albonico passed away peacefully at her home in Pinole, California at the age of 94. She was born on August 22, 1923, in Detroit, Michigan, to Clara Katherine Melms, of Detroit, Michigan, and August Wilhelm Herman Zielesch of Pomerania, Germany. She grew up with four sisters and two brothers and remembered many family hardships during the great depression of the 1930s. In the she worked at Park, Davis & Company filling pill bottles for 74 cents an hour. She met Edward Albonico at a local YWCA dance and a few short months later they were married in Detroit, Michigan, on September 22, 1945. After the war was over and when Ed’s Navy service ended, the newlyweds drove cross country to California and settled in El Cerrito where they raised four sons and one daughter. Shirley was a cafeteria worker and manager at Helms Junior High School in San Pablo, California for over 30 years and retired to live in Pinole in 1998. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be greatly missed by her children Larry Albonico, Ted Albonico, Alan Albonico, Don Albonico and Sharon Albonico; grandchildren Ryan Albonico, Steve Albonico, Aaron Albonico and Briana Albonico; great grandchildren Logan Kurtz and Antonia Albonico; her sister Eileen Zielesch and many nieces and nephews in Michigan. She loved to travel and read her romance novels. She would do anything to support her family and she was a blessing to all who knew her. Graveside services will be held at 2:30p.m. on Friday, March 30, 2018 at Sunset View Cemetery, 101 Colusa Ave., El Cerrito, CA
