My wife Kate and I offer our sincere condolences to Shig's family and loved ones. We both worked for the City of Davis Parks & Community Services, Shig in Parks & Grounds while I worked in Recreation and Special Events. I will always remember Shig as being incredibly kind and understanding especially since my program and event activities often impacted the maintenance of the parks that he was responsible for. Shig was quick to smile and he had a great laugh. When Proposition 13 came along in 1978 we all were hit hard with budget cutbacks but Shig managed with great dignity and respect for his staff and the Davis citizens. Shig also helped hundreds of Davis school children understand the personal impacts of the World War II relocation camps through his talks at schools. Those of us who had the honor of working with him will never forget Shig. The City of Davis is a better place because Shig Yoshimine worked and lived here.

I worked with Shig for many years when he was the Superintendent of Parks and Grounds for the City of Davis. He was always such a nice co-worker who was hard working, intelligent and supportive to work with. I remember fondly the many conversations we had over the years. His was a life well lived. My wife and I send our sincere condolences to Shig's family and loved ones.
