Passed peacefully into God’s loving hands on February 8, 2023 at the
age of 99. He was a native of El Paso, Texas where he was
raised by his parents Guadalupe and Florentino with his six siblings.
At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Army and served with distinction
during WW II in the European Theatre of Conflict. As a member of
the Artillery Corp, he was in combat roles in the Battle of the Bulge (Belgium),
Normandy, Central Europe and Germany. After his honorable discharge in 1946,
he finished a metallurgical degree at the University of Texas, El Paso and
then joined United States Steel Corporation in Pittsburgh, California. He had
a long career with U.S. Steel as a senior engineer. He married his beloved wife
Jane in 1950 and they raised their four children (Alex, Mary, Mark & Teresa) in
Antioch, California. Jane preceded him in death in 2004. His four children survive
him and live in the San Francisco Bay Area with the exception of Teresa who lives in
Miami. Alex and Jane made their retirement home in Berkeley, California where
they lived for many years.
A visitation and a rosary service will be held from 1-5 PM (Rosary at approximately
3PM) on Tuesday, February 14 at the Sunset View Chapel at 101 Colusa Avenue, El
Cerrito, CA (510) 525-5111. A Mass will be held at 1:30PM on Wednesday,
February 15, at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, at 2700 Dwight Way in Berkeley.
A graveside service will be held following Mass at the Golden Gate Mausoleum, 101
Colusa Ave, El Cerrito, (510) 526-6212
Flowers can be received at the Sunset View Chapel in El Cerrito. If you so choose,
