A longtime resident of El Cerrito, “wife and mother extraordinaire” Mieko Ushijima Kurata passed away February 25, 2016 at her home, at the age of 85.
Mrs. Kurata was born in Japan in 1931, daughter of Teruo Ushijima and Hatsue Suzuki. She went on to marry George Tadao Kurata, who preceded her in death in 1989.
She is survived by her loving children; Kathleen Ramos, Christine Anders, Maureen Mitchem, William Kurata and Stephanie Martyn; grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society in her honor.
Services will be private.
