In Loving Memory of Michael Friedrich McCombe
Son, Brother, Uncle, and “Fierce Friend to the end”
Michael Friedrich McCombe passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024, in Oakland, CA, at the age of 50.
Born on October 10, 1973, in Burlingame, CA, Michael’s birthdate was notable for its unique alignment: 10/10/73 (7+3=10), a “three ten” birth date. A meningitis survivor at just 8 months old, Michael demonstrated his resilience early in life. He began walking at 10 months and grew up attending schools in Berkeley and Albany. His academic journey took him through Cal State Humboldt and College of the Redwoods, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from UC Berkeley.
Michael was a man of many talents and interests. As a Boy Scout, wrestler, bowler, craftsman, and designer of beauty, he made an impact in various fields. His love for the arts was evident, and he often played the role of the “Devil’s advocate,” engaging deeply in conversations and challenging perspectives. Michael’s professional life saw him hold various positions within the architecture field, where he applied his keen eye for design and detail.
His legacy is cherished by his loving family: his mother, Gabi Bay; father, Richard McCombe; sister, Gabrielle McCombe Galvarro; half brother, Jason Melgard; brother-in-law, Seth Galvarro; step-mother, Stephanie Solar; step-sister Erin Robinson; sister-in-law, Jamie Martin; and his beloved nephews and nieces, Zachary, Jasmine, and Jacob Galvarro and Adella Robinson-Martin. Throughout his life, Michael formed deep, fierce, and lasting connections with many, and the Joseph Gaeta, Sr. family was a second home to him. Michael’s warmth, intellect, and spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Rest in peace, Michael.
