Mark Aalto peacefully passed at home while on hospice. He was lovingly cared for by his wife, Narda, of 57 years, and his 3 children Darren, Lisa, and Danielle.
Mark started his professional life as an earthquake researcher at UC Berkeley. He trained and worked as an auto mechanic which he enjoyed immensely as it fit his meticulous personality. He also worked as a marine machinist on Mare Island.
Mark was socially inclined with many friends with varying backgrounds and beliefs. He possessed a curious nature and enjoyed travel. He played cards with his wife and close friends in his later years. His passion was fishing and often enjoyed weekends and holidays taking his boat out with friends. His favorite saying was, “we got limits!” He loved to fish for salmon off of Muir Beach and around the Farallon Islands. He spoke of finding peace when connected to nature out at sea.
He will be dearly missed and remembered when a salmon dinner is enjoyed.
A non-denominational memorial service to celebrate Mark’s life will be held at Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary, 101 Colusa Ave., El Cerrito, CA, 94530, on Monday, June 23, at 12 noon. A reception lunch will follow, also at Sunset View.
