Manuel Furtado Sylvia, Jr., 79, of El Cerrito, passed away on May 1, 2017 at his home. Manuel was born in New Bedford, MA on February 12, 1938, and married Marie L. Sylvia on July 17, 1966. Manuel worked for the University of California for over 20 years. He loved to spend quality time with his wife, and they were happily together for over 50 years. Manuel was an avid reader of current news and historical events, and collected sports cards and other memorabilia. Manuel is survived by his two sons: Mario (Kevin Schlemmer) of Washington DC, and Perry (Candice) of Los Angeles.
