Katherine (neé Browne) Marsden
1963 – 2026
Born in Cairo, Egypt in 1963 to Harry Browne, MD and Jean Kerstetter Browne on a U.S. military base, she was one of six children. Predeceased by siblings J. Douglas Browne and Jennifer T. Browne, and beloved son Charles W. Marsden. Survived by loving husband Thomas Marsden, mother Jean Browne of Reno, NV and beloved siblings Harry Browne of WI, Susan Browne Robinson (Evan ) of Santa Cruz, CA and Linda Snook (James) of Santa Cruz, CA. Also survived by 9 nieces and nephews.
Kathey’s early years were spent in Nashville Tennessee. While working for National Cash Register in Boston, she met her future husband, Thomas Marsden. They moved to the Bay Area in 1985, married in 1988 and had one son, Charles. She returned to school in the ‘90s, excelling in computer science at University of California, Berkeley, where she earned highest honors . Kathey and Tom enjoyed travels across many states and continents during their 40+ years together.
Kathey found a flair for math tutoring. She returned to a master’s program in education at Mills College a few years ago. Her intelligent, kind and generous nature was evident—volunteering at El Cerrito H.S., among other places. More recently, she pursued her passion for the environment and banishing world hunger, volunteering at Loaves and Fishes in Martinez.
Private interment at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito. In lieu of flowers, donations to Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, Jelly’s Place animal rescue in San Pablo or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
