Judith Lynn Tannahill, age 80, of Albany, California, passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025,
holding the hand of her beloved husband, Larry. Her passing leaves a profound space in the lives
of all who knew and loved her.
Born on January 31, 1945, in Berkeley, California, to Melvin Hickman and Martha Herring, she
attended Albany schools, just as her children and grandchildren would after her. A proud graduate
of Albany High School, Judi went on to complete her education at Heald Business College and
enjoyed a successful career as a secretary and office manager for several firms in San Francisco
when she was not raising her boys full-time.
Judi met her future husband, Larry Tannahill, while “cruising the main” on McDonald Ave in
Richmond. It was their personal “American Graffiti” moment, which led to over 61 years of loving
marriage.
Family was everything to Judi. Whether she was cheering from the sidelines at her sons’ or
grandchildren’s sporting events—where she was always their number one fan—or gathering
everyone together for a meal crafted with care, her love was constant and unwavering.
Her passions were as vibrant as her spirit. Judi loved to cook and explore new recipes. She found
peace and joy in her garden and had a flair for floral arrangements. A lover of travel, she explored
far and wide, but some of her fondest adventures were closer to home—camping and water skiing
with family and friends in her younger years, taking weekend getaways, and spending time in the
Monterey area. Judi also loved playing tennis both socially and competitively and was a member of
USTA and BALL tennis teams, where she formed lasting friendships and brought her signature
enthusiasm to the court. For over 30 years, she also did Jazzercise with two of her close friends—a
joyful routine that brought movement, laughter, and connection into her life.
She was also a devoted sports fan, especially of the Raiders, having attended their very first game at
the Oakland Coliseum and holding season tickets throughout their years in Oakland. Judi enjoyed
the game of Pinochle—a tradition passed down from her father-in-law—and could always be
found with a book in hand, her love for reading never fading.
Judi is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories,
laughter, and deep love. She is also survived by her two sons, Kevin Tannahill (Laura) and Craig
Tannahill (Kathy); her adored grandchildren, Kyle Tannahill (Stephanie), Brooke Tannahill, and
Luke Tannahill; and her in-laws, Dale Tannahill (Janice) and Donald Tannahill. She leaves behind
many nieces, nephews, cousins, and treasured friends. Judi was preceded in death by her parents,
Melvin Hickman and Martha Herring; her stepfather, Arthur Herring; stepsister, Mary Blackburn;
and her in-laws, Leland and Leona Tannahill, and sister-in-law, Barbara Tannahill.
Judi lived a full and beautiful life—rich with love, laughter, and lasting memories. She will be
remembered for her strength, compassion, and the boundless love she gave to those around her.
Private services will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Judi’s memory by
spending time with your loved ones, cooking a new recipe, or cheering at a game from the stands—
just as she would have done.
