Josephine Jorvina Onciano (“Josie”) transitioned to eternal peace after a short illness on February 17, 2020 in Pittsburg, CA surrounded by family and friends.
She was born in Manila, Philippines on August 26, 1947. The family settled in Salinas in 1956 where she attended Salinas High School and Hartnell College
She is survived by her sons Erik (Michele) and Brent (Ina), grandchildren Anthony, Tre, Ellis, Maxwell (Erik); and Mikaele and Manamea (Brent); siblings Emil, Anita, Cora, Elizabeth and Mamerto; numerous nieces and nephews and cousins
She was preceded in death by her beloved son Michael. His life was cut short at the young age of 26 and this tragedy forever marked Josie‘s life
She was also preceded in death by her parents Mamerto and Ana, nephew David, sister-in-law Fe, parents-in-law Marcelino and Ada.
As a loving mother of three sons, Josie was active as a team mother on various sports teams.  It was during this time that she met many of her closest friends, and they remained friends, even as their sons grew and had families of their own.
Josie had a career in office management. After retirement, she lived in Florida and Texas before returning to California.
She was a member of the American Legion #589.
A memorial service will be held on March 7 at 1 pm at Sunset View Mortuary in El Cerrito. Interment will be private
In lieu of flowers, a donation in Josie’s name may be made to Hospice of the East Bay or the American Cancer Society.

My memory of Josephine is very vivid. I remember first meeting Josephine in late summer of 89 after Erik and I became close. Upon greeting her infectious smile. She immediately treated me like one of her 3 sons. Who over the years I have established my own relationships with. Brent AKA Boogie Dow Productions. And little Mike may his young soul rest in peace.
