John “Jack” Richard Howell, age 82, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek with his family at his side. He was born July 4, 1938, in Oakland, CA to Lewis and Hazel Howell. He was a 1956 graduate of Albany High School. Jack enlisted in the Navy following high school and proudly served his country as a cook on the USS Nicholas from 1956-1958. Returning from the military, Jack worked as a truck driver for PG&E for 35 years, where he formed many great friendships. Jack loved to watch any kind of sporting event and most of all enjoyed having breakfast with his friends. Jack had a great sense of humor and always had a story to share. Jack was predeceased by his parents and his brother Donald Howell. Jack is survived by his sister, Diane Friis (Harold Friis deceased); sister, Lynn Gogna (Carl Gogna); sister, Marilyn Howell (Donald Huff); sister-in-law, Arlene Howell; niece, Beverly Tyson (Robert Tyson); nephew, Steven Howell; niece. Christina Sullivan (Michael Sullivan); nephew, Anthony Gogna (Erika Gogna); and niece, Maria Friis. Jack is also survived by many great nieces and great nephews, cousins, and countless dear friends.
A private viewing will be held at Sunset Mortuary in El Cerrito. In lieu of flowers, donations to a local pet rescue in Jack’s name would be appreciated.
