Janice Burke passed away peacefully at Mercy Care and Retirement Center in Oakland at the age of 85, where she had been living since 2020. Janice was born on a farm in Iowa but was raised in Richmond, California, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1959.Continue Reading
Janice Burke passed away peacefully at Mercy Care and Retirement Center in Oakland at the age of 85, where she had been living since 2020. Janice was born on a farm in Iowa but was raised in Richmond, California, where she lived most of her life. She graduated from San Francisco State University in 1959. She worked as an elementary school teacher for 37 years, most of which was spent at Ellerhorst Elementary, where she was beloved by her students — as evidenced from the piles of gifts in her home.
Janice is survived by her husband Pat, son Shawn, brother Dick, grandson’s Eli and Noah, and several nieces and nephews.
She was always welcoming and kind to everyone who came to her home, which remained a meeting place for Shawn and his friends even after he moved out, and she always had cookies and drinks ready for visitors.
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, there will be a burial service held at Sunset View Cemetery, starting at 1:30 PM.
