Janice Colleen (McCart) Bishop passed away on May 5, 2026. She was born January 4, 1939 on the family farm in Wayne County, Iowa. She was the daughter of Elmer Lyle and Donna Evelyn (Carlson) McCart and the fourth of five children.
Janice graduated from Corydon High School in 1957 and was recruited to the Airline Training School in Omaha, NE. She dreamed of traveling like her brothers but had never done so. Janice then moved to Denver, CO and worked in the Communications Department of United Airlines at the Denver Airport and later transferred to the San Francisco Airport.
While working in Denver, Janice met Robert Bishop (Bob) at a party of mutual friends. Bob was ferrying a Cessna airplane from the factory in Kansas to California. They were engaged within the year and married on a rainy day in Corydon, Iowa at the Baptist Church. Three children followed shortly thereafter.
Janice was a lifelong student of human nature with a love of learning. She had a positive attitude in everything she did and always found the best in people. She had a creative side that manifested with bountiful gardens, paintings, cooking, sewing and other crafts. She was a loving wife and caring mother and grandmother, devoting her time to her family.
Janice got her wish for travel and adventure as the family moved often, living in CA, VA, HI and IA as well as International travel to Hong Kong, the UK, and Ireland.
Janice is survived by her daughters, Laura Cottril (Tim) of Walnut Creek, CA and Nancy Garbarino (Rich) of Martinez, CA, daughter in-law Ruth Ahn of La Mirada, CA, as well as four grandchildren Charles (Charlie) and Nicholas Cottril and Isabel and Elli Garbarino. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Bishop, son Jeffrey Bishop, parents Elmer and Donna McCart; brothers, Deryl, Kenneth, Don and Edmund and sisters-in-law Vivian McCart and Bonnie McCart.
There will be a graveside service at the Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito, CA on June 23, 2026 at 12:00 pm.
