Frank Arthur Saarni, born in San Francisco August 3, 1926 died Monday, January 21, 2013. A long-time resident of Berkeley, Frank served in the Army, in the Philippines, during WWII. Frank had a long-time interest in railroads, especially steam power. He did much work for the California State Railroads Museum in Sacramento during its construction. He had many friends with whom he shared his extensive knowledge of railroads including their history. Frank enjoyed traveling and camping in Canada and the southwest with his wife. He tried to visit as many historic rail liners, riding as many as possible.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Betty, as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Private interment at Sunset View Cemetery, top of Fairmount Avenue, El Cerrito.
