Frank L. James Jr. was born to Lizzie Mae and Frank James Sr. on December 15, 1936 in Houston, Texas. His three siblings, Joyce, John Earl, Gwendolyn and his parents preceded him in death. As a youth, Frank accepted Christ as his personal savior.
Frank graduated from McClymonds High School in Oakland, California where he played football and ran track. Frank loved playing basketball and was an avid golfer in his retirement years. Frank married his high school sweetheart, Mabel Ard and to this union six children were born; Frank, Cassandra, Frederick, Tanya Charisse, Ruth and Kyle. Frank later married Carolyn Barber who preceded him in death.
Frank worked for the City of Oakland for 36 years. He was a Supervisor and a Union Representative during his employment. Frank was recognized by the Office of Public Works for his response and recovery efforts to the Oakland earthquake in 1989 and firestorm in 1991.
Frank was very outgoing, humorous, and friendly person who loved traveling, socializing, and enjoying life. He was personable, a good listener and communicator who had lifelong friendships that he valued dearly.
Family celebration and prayers will be held Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 2:00 pm, Sunset View Cemetery Association in El Cerrito, CA.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory: Three sons, Frank III, (Krystal), Fred and Kyle (Pat) and three daughters, Cassandra, Tanya Charisse (Terry) and Ruth. Seven grandchildren: Keesha Allen Brown (Fernando), Kyle James Jr., Jalisa Banks, Terry Hendricks II, Kyliauna James, Frank James IV and Ayvah James. One great grandchild: Nadia Brown. Niece: Nicole Watson-Richards. Great niece: Star Rodriguez and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
The family of Frank L. James Jr. acknowledge with sincere appreciation your prayers, phone calls, gifts of food, cards, visits and other acts of kindness. Our hearts are lifted by your genuine show of love and concern. Frank will truly be missed by all who knew, shared life, and loved him.
