Florence Leah Butter, 89, of Alameda, California, passed away on Sunday, December 21, 2014 and will be greatly missed.
Born August 24, 1925 in Anderson, Indiana, she is predeceased by her parents, Otis and Gladys (Heath) Kopp, of Anderson, Indiana, her sister Emma Lue Kopp of Alameda, California, her late husband, George Nicholis Butter of Alameda, California and her son William Steven Butter of Carmel, Indiana.
Florence was a homemaker, more than 50 year member of the League of Women Voters serving on its board and on many committees in Indiana and California. She donated her time to many other nonprofits and volunteered with adult literacy.
She loved to cook, sew, garden and enjoyed reading and playing card and board games. She traveled extensively and especially enjoyed vacations and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her brother Dr. William Kopp of Anderson, Indiana; her children, Karen Butter of Alameda; Nicholis Butter of Alameda; Kathryn Layman of Pleasanton; Vicki (Richard) Jones of Phoenix, Arizona; Kristina (Philip) Castle of Ben Lomond; five grandchildren, Erika Jones, Jessica Layman, Leslie (Randy) Leyba, Lindsey (James) Ferguson, Hillary Jones; and five great-grandchildren, Joshua Layman, Emily and Devin Ferguson, Quin and Sawyer Leyba.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2 pm on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Sunset View Cemetery, 101 Colusa, El Cerrito.
