I knew Eduardo for a around ten years. The first time I really talked to him I was helping him and Armin move that crazy huge armoire off of the loading dock at the Omni. Ow! I consider him a good friend and have been in touch with him consistently after he left the Omni. We worked through the empty streets of the pandemic together. He was a kind gentle person and was pretty diplomatic. Sometimes he shared some really personal things which kind of floored me. He didn't really follow the social norms in that way and while some people felt shocked, I found it kind of endearing because of the level of trust and a kind of who-gives-a-crap attitude that he lived by. He had a great sense of humor, when he got excited about something he could be quite dramatic which really cracked me up. I will miss him, condolences to his family. .He certainly had a lot of skills and as i learned after working with him for awhile, pretty over qualified for his job and that is something I felt that we had in common. He was a respectful person, not just somebody that claims to be respectful, I appreciated him. He had a lot of great stories about working in Japan and working for Billboard(?) there. He told me about meeting Prince and Donna Summer's family, very entertaining! He loved showing me the good little spots he found to eat snacks and the best Bobo drinks around the Financial District! I will miss him and so will a lot of other people he knew. RIP EDDY! Rick Gorn

Mr Eduardo my leader my boss my friend, may he rest in peace. He will truly be missed. He was truly a wonderful person, indeed a pleasure to work with. As I just spoke to him last recently before his passing. Very sad to hear of shocking sudden passing - crying in sorry. I did not truly know if I can work this week after hearing this news of his passing. I knew he would want to continue to strive our best to work when we can. Mr Eduardo even though I knew a short while has really showed me what it means to be a great person and a great leader. Mr Eduardo great leadership, hard work, sense of humor and being a great human being , where surely be missed. I appreciate his communication skills when he would always bring out my many concerns to management regarding safety for residents and building. Thank you again for your Email. May Mr Eduardo rest in peace. His spirit and legacy will live on.

It took me a few days to write these words. I guess that is what denial does to us. It’s hard to find the right words to capture the essence of someone as vibrant and full of life as Eduardo. He was one of the first people we met when we arrived in California, and from the very beginning, his open heart and welcoming nature made us feel at home. He and Armin embraced us as friends, and soon after, we knew we had found someone special in him. Eduardo had an extraordinary gift for bringing people together, making connections, and spreading joy wherever he went. He believed in a world that was more united and happier, and he lived his life trying to make that a reality. I recall once when he organized a gathering at his place just for the “crew” … never mind no one in the group knew each other except for the hosts! And guess what, several of us remain in touch because of Eduardo brought us together. Whether he was sharing stories over tea or organizing a gathering, he always had a smile on his face, full of fun and warmth. His extravagant ways and lively personality made every moment with him memorable. I will never forget how Eduardo introduced us to San Francisco. He took us to the Castro, showing us the spirit and history of the place, and to Sweet Temptations—one of the best bakeries we’ve ever been to. But more than the city itself, it was Eduardo’s passion and love for life that made those experiences unforgettable. He welcomed us into his home for a whole month when we were in limbo between Brazil and the U.S., and it was during that time that we got to know Eduardo even better. We learned about his deep love for Donna Summer, his obsession with South Park (which we binged all in one night!), and of course, Terça Insana, a live show from Brazil that still has us laughing to this day. His cat, his plants, and his work ethic were also testaments to the love and dedication he put into everything and everyone he cared about. Eduardo left us far too soon, and it’s difficult to imagine a world without him. He had so much more to give, so much more to share with his friends and with the world. But even though his time here was cut short, his spirit, his laughter, and his love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, my dear friend. Thank you for the memories, the joy, and the connections you created. You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

In the brief 7 months I worked with Eduardo, I got to know him a bit. He and I both have hotel back rounds. We knew colleagues in common. I was keeping him informed about the hotel strike in SF. Sometimes when he saw me walking up to the security dispatch window at Millennium Tower, he would sing the chorus of "Vision of Love" by Mariah Carey. This would bring a smile to my face, as well as a laugh. Eduardo had such a wonderful and engaging personality. He will be sorely missed by his work colleagues. Sincerely, Mariah Zuefle

Acreditava no bem e praticava o bem.

Eduardo was a real friend. He was the guy you knew was there for you if you needed. He was kind, honest, and very committed to his friends and family. Since we moved to this Country 20 years ago, he shared so many things and moments with us. His home. His friends. His passions. His happy and sad moments. His hopes and dreams. When we moved to Seattle during the pandemic, he was one of the first friends that came visit us. We had such a blast during those few days together, so I am sharing a couple of pictures here. It has been an honor and privilege to be his friend. He was a very important person in our lives and we will miss him deeply. My condolences to Armin, Ana and the entire family. Be in piece my friend. You will be always in our hearts.

My deepest condolences to the Hanke family and to Armin Ciriaco. I am still like most I am sure, in quite a state of shock after learning of Eduardos sudden passing. We were best friends and just spoke a few weeks ago about our plans after retirement, about not waiting until we retire and planning on doing an Alaskan cruise in 2025. Meeting in Florida and getting together with Mary; he said he knew the we would have a blast together. This last conversation we had was most spent talking about life and making time to just be, to just relax and surround ourselves with the people we love and not taking things, circumstances or situations too seriously. And here I am writing my condolences about Eduardo, he would always say I was his sister, That we were sisters. I will always remember going to Brazil with him and meeting his wonderful family, meeting them in Porto Alegre and them going to Grammado with the entire family. Eduardo and I later ended that trip in Rio de Janiero. Unforgettable moments and memories we created. The joy, the laughter and the stories left behind as part of our story together. I will always hold our friendship, our sisterhood and our secrets close to my heart. In my heart forever. Behave my love, and shine you light through that beautiful smile and that laugh. I will never forget that laugh and all of the nonsense we loved to create and laugh about, and that's a life well lived. Until we meet again Thunder (nickname)! You will be greatly missed.

Darling Eduardo, my best friend for the last 31 years. My heart is broken to a million pieces now that you are gone. For so many years you had been a loving and loyal friend anybody can ever imagine having in one’s life. I must admit I feel lost now. We had so many future plans together, we were supposed to grow old together, go on vacations and enjoy our golden girls moments together as two true divas…. I saw you exactly 2 weeks before you passed in SF. A very quick catch up dinner before I had to come home from a biz trip We shared stories, great seafood meal that you loved and laughed silly as we can’t help ourselves every time we get together… you brought so much joy and happiness in my life that I can’t thank you enough. Our adventure together and experiences we shared, I will forever cherish those moments and will build more memories to honor you so I can share them with you when I see you again. Until then my BFF, thank you for being there for me thick and thin. Hope you are dancing on the biggest stage w Donna and filming that for all of us to see when we all get there someday! For Armin and Eduardo’s family, he truly was the shining bright light to my life and I am certain to so many people he encountered. I am so sorry for your loss and please let me know if there is anything I can do to help during this very difficult time. Eduardo was more than a friend to me and I consider him as a part of my family and he often shared the same for me. So as a family I would like to offer my full support for anything I could. Rest in peace my darling Eduardo, Love ~ Yosh

The Nuernberg Familty left a message on September 13, 2024:
Eduardo came from a long line of funny and witty Hankes, who brought joy and laughter to friends and family alike, and filled our own childhoods with fun and funny memories. My grandmother once said that Eduardo's grandfather possessed that exact same sense of humor, and who knows how far back that gene can be traced up the Hanke family tree. Some stories and sayings live on and can now make the next generation stop and laugh on the spot. And there is something else that will remain in the family. When Eduardo was very young he walked up to my father and his father and pronounced they were both "corbaidos." This was, of course, a completely made-up word, but a word that completely stuck. The corbaidos became a thing--a proud group of self-deprecating jokesters--and to this day our phone conversations will likely start with "E aí, corbaido, como é que tá?," followed by "Fala aí, corbaido!" Our corbaido cousin Eduardo was loved by all and will be forever missed!

I met Eduardo in August 2021 searching for the right candidate for a highly specialized position and client for my company. It did not take very long to figure out he was a perfect match. Over the past 3 years our professional relationship grew into a personal friendship that i will forever cherish. If I had to sum up who Eduardo was, my immediate response would be A Very Good Man! Capable, warm, intelligent, worldly are certainly all very fitting, but when all else is said about Eduardo, he was a very good & decent man respected and respectful of others. He will be deeply missed by me, my wife Katharyn and my team at the Millennium tower who he lead with dignity, empathy and grace. May his memory and legacy live on and may he look over all of us and guide us in positivity. RIP my dear brother- Alan Schissel

I met Eduardo several decades ago (~1984) in Brazil. He was a classmate of my brother's, but we became great friends from then on. I recall many late nights at his house with pao-de-queijo and long conversations. Many many memories from those days in the 80s in Brazil. There was a summer week together in Bombinhas, a tropical paradise beach in the south of Brazil. And the carnival party we snuck into a club without paying. After I left for the US and he left for Japan, we kept in touch sporadically, but, by sheer luck, we both ended up in the Bay Area and we had a number of new memories with Armin and my family. He spent his 50th birthday with me and my family in Spain... I'm sad he did not have the time to get away from work and spend those golden years in Brazil as he was planning. He was a true friend and a kid-at-heart, living as intensively as possible. He will be missed.

I got to know Eduardo only in recent years through his lifelong friend Seiko. Nevertheless, his absence will be deeply felt. His altruistic personality instantly won everyone over. Spontaneous and sociable, he loved hosting gatherings and making everyone feel comfortable. I remember the first time I met Eduardo at a restaurant after an art event. He was the kind of person who felt like an instant friend, someone you’d known forever. My son Marco also met him for the first time at that event, and despite only spending a few hours at that restaurant, Marco developed admiration for Eduardo right away. Eduardo had a great sense of humor—how could anyone not be his friend? It’s impossible. We are truly sorry for his premature departure. He will be missed and remembered for years to come. I am sure he will be the main subject in many stories shared by those who knew him. Sincere condolences to his family, close friends and loved ones. Ciao, Eduardo.

Saudade, amigo querido! Te amarei para sempre! Obrigada por tudo e por tanto!

I met Eduardo in 1974, it was 50 years of friendship. Certainly, after his brother, sister and mother, I am the person who has known him the longest. We met at school and remained together until the end of high school. He was a guy with a big heart, extremely kind, very humorous and intelligent. He left Brazil and marked his place in the world. One of the most memorable moments was his presence at my wedding in March of this year. He was my best man and gave a moving speech about 50 years of our friendship. In the last few months we've talked a lot about life, how short it is and how we should make the most of every moment. He had many plans for post-retirement, about traveling, seeing other places, traveling with friends and enjoying his family. Unfortunately it was not possible to achieve this. One of the things that marked him most was his good humor, he always had a joke to tell. He even made fun of himself. And that's the image I want to keep of him. Eduardo, wherever you are, keep laughing and making fun of everything, while we mourn the loss of you here. Go in peace.

Eu e o Halex temos duas palavras para lembrar do Eduardo: generosidade e intensidade. Generosidade é a minha palavra. A definição do Halex é intensidade. O Eduardo tinha fome de vida.
