Edna Marie Hill passed away Friday evening, February 13, 2015, at the Park Manor Homes care facility in Richmond where she had spent the last five years. Edna was born on May 28, 1924 in San Francisco, but spent almost all of her life residing in Berkeley and Richmond. She graduated from Richmond High School and UC Berkeley where she received a degree in French. In 1947, she began a 37 year career of teaching at Fairmont Elementary School in El Cerrito. Even in retirement, she continued to mentor and tutor young students. She loved all children including her own nephews and great nephews.
Edna loved to travel having visited the four corners of the world many times. She also loved her close teaching friends, her PEO group, and her bridge groups. She had a true zest for life.
Edna is pre-deceased by her husband Glen Bailey. She is survived by her two nephews, John Hill (Cindy) and Steven Hill (Cher) as well as her four great nephews, Jeff, Scott, Bryce, and Keith. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito, CA. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the charity of your choice.
