Donald H. Waldon, a longtime resident of Berkeley, passed away July, 7, 2017 at the age of 85. Donald was born in Kansas City, Missouri on August 5, 1931 to parents Donnie Waldon and Leah Barnes. At the age of 7, Donald moved with his father to San Francisco where he attended grammar and high school. He graduated from San Francisco State University where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. During his early college years, he met his future wife Bessie L. Davis. After graduating from college he was drafted into the US Army and served for two years. Following his military service he married Bessie on August 5, 1956. They moved to Berkeley after they were married. They had two daughters, Lori and Lynn.
Donald was a probation officer for more 35 years, first employed by Alameda County and then Contra Costa County. He retired in 1992. Following his retirement, Donald and Bessie spent more than 20 years traveling all over the world and proudly talked about visiting every continent-including Antarctica. Aside from traveling they loved spending time with their family and friends.
A loving and devoted husband and father, Donald will be greatly missed by wife Bessie, daughters Lori and Lynn, son-in-law Ted DeAdwyler and sister-in-law, Bernita Davis.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at Sunset Mausoleum, 101 Colusa Ave., El Cerrito, CA. Entombment will take place immediately following the service.
