Dolores Wong passed away of natural causes on November 4, 2025, surrounded by her children, Eric and Celeste.
Dolores was born in 1936 at Schofield Barracks in Hawaii, where her father served in the U.S. Army and her mother cared for their large family. The youngest of nine children, she grew up on the military base as Dolores Medina, supported by five protective brothers and three strong-willed sisters. Only one brother survives her today.
A graduate of Roosevelt High School on Oahu, Dolores later married fellow Roosevelt alumnus Stephen Wong in 1959. Although they grew up in the same place, their paths crossed in San Francisco, where their life together truly began. They remained devoted to one another until Steve’s passing in 2016. Together they traveled the world, building a lifetime of shared stories. She never remarried.
Dolores worked as a nurse at Kaiser Hospital in Richmond, California, for 29 years. She had a deep understanding of health and a gift for listening; many people turned to her when they needed comfort or clarity about what they were going through.
After retiring from Kaiser, she started a small business from her basement creating wedding favors and floral arrangements. She loved the beauty of her craft, and even now, ribbons in every color of the rainbow can still be found throughout her home.
She was a kind and generous soul—well-read, curious, and full of quiet joy. She loved music and art, and she read the San Francisco Chronicle cover to cover every day. Her home was always open. Whether you needed a warm meal, a place to rest, or simply someone to listen, she welcomed you without hesitation.
She was loved by many, and her kindness left a mark that will be felt for years to come.
