On Wednesday, December 30, 2020, Calvin Low, the eldest of four children born to Yu Cheuk Low and Yuk Wan Ng, passed away at the age of 72 at his home in San Francisco, California.
A lifelong resident of the city, his early years were spent in the Russian Hill district. He attended Spring Valley Elementary School and Marina Jr. High. When the family moved to the inner Richmond district in 1961, he continued his education at Presidio Jr. High, George Washington High and City College of San Francisco. He transferred to UC Berkeley to complete his undergraduate studies and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in linguistics in 1970. In the ensuing years, he worked on the technical support staff for an architectural firm near Chinatown. In his leisure time, Calvin liked to express himself creatively through his pencil/charcoal sketches and small watercolors. He had a passion for various genres of music and for the performing arts including opera, Polynesian/Pacific Islander cultural events and dance, especially ballet.
He is survived by his brothers, Alvin and Ronald, sister Evelyn (David), nieces Katherine (Jimmie) and Jeanette, nephew Matthew (Jennifer), grand-nephews Alexander, Lawsyn and Kolton, grand-nieces Alyson and Kalista and many cousins. We are all deeply saddened and will miss him at our family gatherings and celebrations.
