Anita Jessie Baldwin was born in Berkeley, California on March 31, 1953. She was the second of five children born to the late Jesse and Ellen V. Baldwin.
Anita confessed Christ as a child, inspired by her Father and Mother’s Christian beliefs. She was baptized at Gethsemane Community Church in Berkeley, California.
Anita loved the outdoors, which subsequently produced a love for photography. One of her photographs was entered to her high school and earned front page status. Anita was so serious about her craft, that she converted part of her bedroom into a darkroom to develop film and print her own pictures. It was common to see her black and white photographs around the Baldwin home. It was equally common to see many family photos missing Anita, because she was the photographer.
Anita studied at Merritt College in Oakland, California. She obtained her AA in General Studies and went on to study History at the University of California, Davis. While at Davis, she embarked upon an opportunity to travel abroad to Africa. Her breathtaking slide photographs of Tanzania, Nairobi, Uganda, Kenya and the Zanzibar shores became a part of the Baldwin household time of entertainment.
Celebrating fifty-nine years of life, Anita departed this life in her sleep on January 3, 2013 at her home in Berkeley.
Anita will be sorely missed but forever in our hearts. She leaves to cherish her memory, her Sister Janice W. Baldwin of Berkeley, Ca, Brother Christopher J. Baldwin, Sister-In-Law Brenda, Nephew, Christopher Baldwin and Niece Candace Jessie Baldwin; and Sister Karen Baldwin of Richmond, Ca. Anita also leaves a host of cousins, Aunts, and other dear friends and relatives.
