At Sunset View Cemetery & Mortuary, we love when the weather starts to cool as it means we can take advantage of the many outdoor activities available throughout the Bay Area. We encourage all our neighbors to head outside with family and friends to see the fall colors and take part in all the fun things to do in our neighborhood.

Here are some of the best outdoor fall activities in the Bay Area:

Stroll through the Japanese Tea Garden.

Located at the heart of San Francisco’s legendary Golden Gate Park, the Japanese Tea Garden makes a restorative oasis in the middle of the city. It’s the oldest garden of its kind in the country and boasts beautiful greenery, traditional pagodas, and a tranquil lake. Kids will love checking out the koi pond, steppingstone paths, and the Zen garden. This unique retreat also serves as a peaceful and poignant reminder of the Japanese internment in California during World War II.

SF Fleet Week Air Show

The weekend of October 7-9, head over to Fisherman’s Wharf to watch the annual San Francisco Fleet Week Air Show take place over the water. The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headline this fully choreographed show, the only one of its kind to feature a commercial airline, United 777. This waterfront event attracts thousands of locals and tourists each year.

Sundown Cinema Film Night in the Park

Watching a movie outdoors is one of the best fall activities. The Bay Area has a few drive-in theaters to catch a blockbuster under the stars, but we love Sundown Cinema Film Night in the Park, as it shows family-friendly films across multiple locations. On August 19, check out Encanto at India Basin Shoreline Park with two films in September and one in October. Go here for the complete schedule and to enter to win reserved seating and exciting prizes.

Crosstown Trail

For the ultimate day hike, head to the Crosstown Trail, an urban path that connects southeast and northwest San Francisco. As you walk, run, or bike this one-of-a-kind trek, you’ll pass through public parks, hidden trails, and community gardens. The trail begins near Candlestick Park State Recreation Area close to the former stadiums of the 49ers and Giants.

If you live in Piedmont, Oakland, and Richmond or the surrounding area, reach out to our staff with any questions or concerns about our funeral or cremation services. We are here for you 24/7. We hope all our families have an inspiring autumn enjoying the outdoors in the Bay Area!
